Berlin Information
Berlin – capital of the recently re-unified Germany; lies in the north-east of the country at the centre of the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan area and comprises a population of 5 million people. It is Germany’s largest city, a world city of Culture, Politics, Media and Science, yet this sprawling metropolis still boasts an area of Forests, Parks, Gardens, Rivers and Lakes that encompass about a third of the city’s territory.
Berlin is famous for many things, Marlene Dietrich, Brandenburg Gate, the Daimler Motor Car Company, BMW Motorcycles and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, to name but a few. However, Berlin is probably most famous for the huge Berlin wall built after World War II effectively splitting the country apart.
In 1990, the wall came down and east and west joined once more to become one of Europe’s greatest Capital cities with Germany emerging as a leading member of the EU and a major player in Manufacturing, Engineering, Economics and Sport on the world stage.
Although levelled in World War II, Berlin has been resurrected to take its place amongst the powerhouse capitals of the world. Housing some of the most renowned Universities, Research Institutes, Orchestras, Museums and Sporting Events, the reputation the city has garnished over the last fifty years in producing Festivals, Contemporary Arts, Diverse Architecture, Nightlife and the Standard of Living has made it a global focal point for the young modern liberals from today’s society.
Berlin is classed among the top three convention cities in Europe and the third most visited destination in the EU. There is always something to do in Berlin whether you enjoy Opera, Classical Music, Alternative Nightlife, or quite, peaceful days in the numerous parks, museums, restaurants and café bars, modern day Berlin will excite and enthral you.
