Bridgetown Information

Bridgetown was established in 1857 and was named after the first ship that first docked to collect wool from the farms.

Today Bridgetown is still a hub for the farming and agricultural community but more recently there has been an emergence of tourism in the area.

Being located on the Blackwood River is one of the towns top draw cards. If you are looking for the perfect paddling adventure or eco trip then look no further than Bridgetown.

There are numerous picnic spots along the river for that perfect tranquil lunchtime experience.

Something you don’t experience anywhere else is the Jigsaw gallery and Museum located in town. This museum boasts the largest jigsaw collection of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

There are also plenty of festivals and events every year. In May and November every year, the Festival of Country Gardens is held. This festival highlights the countryside in the hinterland of the South West.

If you are a wine connoisseur then you will love October the Blackwood Valley Wine Show. Also in October is the Blackwood marathon for those who love running.

In November experience the Blues at Bridgetown music festival as well as the agricultural show which dates back to the 1920’s.

No shortage of things to do like: art galleries, museums, heritage sites, wineries, gift shops, river cruises, bird watching, fishing, camping, kayaking, horseriding, safari and bush walking tours just to mention a few.

Bridgetown is also a very enjoyable place to go camping at. If you enjoy the experience of living with Australian nature then Bridgetown is the perfect place to pitch your tent.
