Busselton Western Australia
Busselton has been rated three times as the top tourism town in Western Australia and is an extremely popular seaside town preferred by many from Perth. Located just 232kms or a short 2 and a half drive, it makes the perfect weekend getaway.
The area of Geographe Bay where Busselton is situated is actually sheltered from prevailing winds and the white sandy beach is the perfect aquatic playground to relax at. You won't find surfing here but instead a great place to get a tan under the aussie sun.
Wlile enjoying the tranquility and peacefulness of the region also check out the wildflowers in the area. There are so mamy varieties from Kangaroo paws, pink vine, cats paws and donkey and spider orchids in abundance.
The most obvious attraction in the region though is the Busselton Jetty. It is actually the longest wooden Jetty in all of Australia. Built almost 100 years ago it not only has history in its purpose why it was built but also acts as the best fishing platform. 2kms long check it out.
Another fanstastic surprise is the Busselton Underwater Observatory. This is definately one of Australia's must see eco tourism hotspots and is located at the end of the 1.8km Jetty. You will view more than 300 marine species from the safety of underwater chamber windows.
Also visit the Busselton Historic Museum. Housed in the old Butters factory it displays historical items such as sheep sheers and farm machinery, photographs, and other various historic items. Well worth a visit and open from 2-5pm daily except Tuesdays.
Just 10kms north of Busselton is the Woonerup House Settlement. First inhabited in 1834 by the Layman family it is a good example of early farm pioneering. This building has been restored to it's original condition by the national heritage trust and well worth time to visit.
