Derby Information
Derby is a small town of about 3000 people located slightly north of Broome. It is made famous for having the highest tide in Australia, a difference between low and high tide of 11.8 meters.
Derby has a tropical climate and is very nice most of the year and rarely ever cold. In the dry season (May-October) you can expect a medium tempreture of about 28-34 degrees during the day, while in the tropical summer (November-April) about 35-40 degrees.
Don't miss the annual Boab festival held early July every year which runs for a whole week. The fantastic activities include things such as mud football, Mardi gras, teady bears picnic, markets, art auctions, concerts, cutural festivals and even crab racing just to mention a few.
Also try some fishing while here because it's one of Australia's top spots. Derby actually holds the Buccaneer Fishing Classic in April every year.
Derby is the gateway to the Buccaneer Archipelago. There are some over 1000 rocky islands all with beautiful white sandy beaches for you to explore.
From Derby Australia becomes quite isolated and you will feel like an explorer discovering places never seen before for the first time in civilisation
All visitors to Australia from other countries should not leave without exploring Derby and the kimberleys. This would have to be the most pristine spot in the world and there is no other experience anywhere else on the planet.
