Hyden Information
Hyden is located about 4 hours from Perth (345 Km's) and is the nearest town to the popular tourist attraction Wave Rock.
The Aboriginals inhabited the Hyden and Wave rock region for hundreds and thousands of years. There are very significant Aboriginal rock carvings spread throughout the area which make a great visit and interesting experience.
Wave Rock is actually a granite cliff which is over 110 meters long and 15 meters high. Scientists believe that it was created and made by wheather, water and chemical erosion over the last two billion years.
Other famous tourist attractions in Hyden are the Hippo's Yawn and the Mulka's Cave.
There is plenty of Aboriginal art in Mulka's Cave and as the history goes the name Mulka comes from an Aboriginal legened associated with the cave. Apparently there was the illegal son of a woman who fell in love with a man who was forbidden and the story of their fate makes this alone an interesting enough story to visit the region.Have you ever been inside a Hippo?. That's an experience you can only have in Hyden. The Hippo's Yawn looks like someone tried to carve this out just to attract more tourists. this is not the case however, as like wave rock, nature created it over time. Check it out and take some photos to show people back home.
In the Spring Hyden is amazing and comes alive with natural growing wildflowers. You can also enjoy the bird watching as there are over 40 species of birds with the wedge-tailed eagle being one of the most popular due to its size.
There is a wildlife park to visit in the area. This Wildlife park is like no other in that it features the rare white Kangaroos. In case you are thinking about it, No they didn't just spray paint the roos for tourists. Its just one of those lovely nature things found only in Hyden.
