Lancelin Information
Lancelin is a small tourist and fishing town located just 115kms to the north of Perth.
The town has only about 650 people living there permanently but the population grows to about 2,500 people in holiday periods and with new year celebrations. It was originally named after P.J Lancelin the scientific writer.
Lancelin is a great holidaying spot if you don't want to travel too far away from Perth. If you love Kitesurfing and windsurfing Lancelin promises to have lots of wind all time of year.
Surfing is also popular at Lancelin. It may not have the massive big swell like some places south of Perth. It does however have great waves with good wave formation for those wanting to learn the art of surfing.
Lancelin is also a great place to have fun at in the famous sand dunes. Many people take trailbikes, 4wd's and sand boards to lancelin to play in the pristine white sand dunes.
Fishing is fantastic in Lancelin. The economy mainly drives on the crayfish industry but just gerneral beach fishing is superb. Being such a remote place it has been relatively untouched and there are plenty of fish to go around.
A shipwreck of the 1660's the"Gilt Dragon" is the oldest history to Lancelin but plays a vital role now to the eco system. If you love diving it's a great place to go to and see how the shipwreck now has created an underworld oasis.
If you are looking to visit a place that doesn't have the hustle and bustle of a regular tourist place then look no further than Lancelin. Many come to relax beachside, go fishing and lap up the sun. Others however come for the thrill such as sandune buggy racing, kiteboarding or extreme 4wd action.
