Nannup Information

Nestled in the heart of the Blackwood Valley in Western Australia’s south west is the beautiful little town of Nannup. The breathtaking scenery is a major draw card to the town, particularly the unique forest surroundings.

Although timber milling and agriculture dominate Nannup’s economy, wine, tourism and floriculture are growing industries. Visiting a local winery or wildflower farm is a must when in Nannup.

Nannup has a population of less than 1,200, and uses various annual events to attract multitudes of visitors. The Nannup Music Festival, held in March, brings over 5,000 tourists and the Flower and Garden Festival attracts more than 7,000 visitors.

Sporting events such as the Forest Car Rally Championships and the Nannup Cup (power dinghy racing) also bring large numbers of visitors to Nannup.

Little changes have been made to the town’s main street since its establishment in 1889 and this has given the town considerable heritage value. A 2.5km walking tour of the town is a popular activity, and a must see is the gemstone museum.

Walking trails through the Karri forest, Jarrah forest and along the Blackwood River are a must for the adventurous traveller.

The Balingup/ Nannup/ Bridgetown tourist drive is also a spectacular sight, encompassing unique flora and fauna such as the giant Karri trees, found only in Western Australia’s south west region.

When exploring the area, a 10 minute drive west will take you to the Barrabup Pool. The natural swimming pool is a beautiful sight and is a popular swimming and picnic site.

A range of tourist accommodation is available to suit all budgets, from hotels to bed and breakfast retreats, to a caravan park and camping grounds.
