Wyndham Western Australia
Wyndham is the most northern town in all of Western Australia and has a population of around 850 -1000 people. The community is almost exactly 50/50 on white/aboriginal living here.
If you love warm climate Wyndham is your town as over 300 days a year it is 32 degrees or above.
Most people travel to Wyndham on their expolarion path throughout the Kimberleys. Although the costal camp and waterfalls that make the region famous are over a 100kms away, Wyndham is the closest town to stay at.
INTERESTS IN TOWN
* There is a crocodile statute which is 20 meters long. This is not just for tourist happy snaps but a reminder that you are in croc country and there are plenty of crocodiles in the water up here.
* See the real life Aboriginal Bronze Statutes. As part of the Bi-centenary project and originally intended for kings park, there are bronze life size statutes of an aboriginal family for you to see and enjoy.
* Visit the largest ever Boab tree still growing at the Three Mile Caravan Park. This tree is so huge you will have troubles taking photos of it.
* At Low tide you can see the remains of the Koolama shipwreck which was bombarded by the Japanese during world war II.
* Take a trip to the Bastion Ranges and at the highest point you will find the five rivers lookout. This would have to be one of the most perfect spots in Australia to watch sunrises and sunsets. Don’t miss your and make sure your camera is charged.
* History Discovery. During April – October visit the Wyndham historical Society to discover more deeper the heritage of Wyndham.
