Queenstown Information
Queenstown is a wild and adrenaline fuelled resort town on New Zealand’s south island. With a population of approx 10,500 in the urban area and almost 23,000 in the Queenstown-Lakes District, this small but stunning resort is classed as the adventure capital of the world. Set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu with a backdrop of mountain peaks, it is fast becoming a Mecca for adventure junkies the world over.
In winter, visitors from around the world flock to the four major destinations in the region to try their hand at mountain skiing, amidst some of the finest scenery in the southern hemisphere.
For the warmer weather adventurers there is Bungy Jumping, Jet Boating. Mountain Biking, Sky Diving, White Water Rafting, Heli-Skiing, Canyon Swinging and a host of other activities designed to get the heart pumping and live on the edge of danger.
When you see the natural beauty of Queenstown and its surrounding area, it is little wonder the region is a popular destination for film makers, the first, in 1981 was ‘Race for the Yankee Zephyr’ followed by George Lucas’s Fantasy, ‘Willow’, then ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Trilogy and the 2009 ‘X-Men Origins - Wolverine’.
Enticing the young adventure brigade and adrenaline junkies to the region has a knock on effect and Queenstown has a growing nightlife culture encompassing Live Music Events and over 150 Bars/Cafes and Restaurants to fuel the body for the up and coming days adventures or soothe the aches from the previous high powered thrill rides.
