Brunswick Heads Information
Brunswick Heads is a popular holiday spot situated on the mouth of the Brunswick River. The Bundjalung Aboriginal People originally inhabited the area until white settlement in the early 1830’s. Brunswick Heads was once a busy Sea Port in 1880 and today the township has grown into a tourist destination. since 1920's.
Many travellers and tourists flock to Brunswick Heads for the perfect seaside getaway. The area is a paradise and idyllic for Boating, Sailing, Swimming, Fishing, Canoeing, Surfing and many other water related activities.
The Brunswick River is extremely popular for boats and provides enjoyable cruises with ample waterways and wildlife to see. The river is broken up into three sections, being the main section that runs to Mullumbimby, south arm named Simpson Creek and the north arm named Marshall’s Creek.
Whale watching is a fantastic activity in the area especially during May to July when the Humpback whales travel north and in September to November when they travel south. There are various charter companies available and Whale watching is a highly recommended thing to experience when visiting Brunswick Heads.
The Mina Mina Art Gallery located in Mullumbimbi street is also well worth a visit. The gallery features fine aboriginal artworks from local and Australian artists.
Located on the riverbank in Memorial Park on the first Saturday each month is the Brunswick Heads markets. The markets provide the perfect opportunity to purchase fresh produce and locally made goods.
One great event not to miss in Brunswick Heads is the Kites and Bikes Festival held every second year around March. Last held in 2009 and next scheduled in 2011, the festival attracts thousands who come to fly kites of all shapes and sizes. In 2009 Australia’s largest kite was proudly flown in the festival.
