Cowra Information
Cowra is a fast growing town in New South Wales with a population of around 14,000 people. The town is 310 meters above sea level with spectacular scenery and amazing history.
During the Second World War Cowra was the site of a major Japanese prisoner war camps. Years after the war the Cowra tourism development department worked closely with Japan to build something in respect and the Japanese gardens were created in Cowra. Today this is one of Cowra’s hottest tourist attractions.
Another big attraction in Cowra is the Wyangala Dam in the Wyangala Waters State Park. The dam is located just a short drive away from Cowra at the junction of the Lachlan and Abercombie rivers. There are heaps of activities like fishing, boating, water slides, canoeing, sailing and water skiing on the dam. On land why not take up the opportunity to see some nature and wildlife with the magnificent walking trails around the dam.
Wine connoisseurs will enjoy the Cowra wine region. Recognised, as some of Australia’s best wine region there are heaps of fresh produce and wine tastings to experience. Most wineries today also feature some great restaurants so explore the area and enjoy some lunch in the countryside.
An exciting event in Cowra is the Farmers Market held the third Saturday every month at the showgrounds. The markets are a fantastic place to get supplies for your picnic basket and you have the opportunity to purchase fresh local produce direct from the owner.
While in the area and enjoying the countryside, take up a round of golf at the Cowra golf club. Located in the west of the mountains, the golf course is set with magnificent scenery to enjoy just in case you don’t get that perfect hole in one.
