Jindabyne in New South Wales is a town overlooking Lake Jindabyne near the snowy mountains. It is a very popular winter holiday destination due to its proximity to several ski resorts in the region.
In summer Jindabyne also attracts many tourists who come to visit Lake Jindabyne for popular activities like waterskiing, wakeboarding, canoeing and fishing for trout.
Jindabyne is also nearby Mount Kosciuszko and the Kosciuszko National Park located in the Australian Alpine region. Very popular ski resorts like Thredbo and Perisher Blue are located nearby.
The town of Jindabyne is also the highest settlement in Australia at 918 meters above sea level. During winter light snow fall is a natural occurrence and the town has been the setting for two movies the AFI winning film Somersault and the movie Jindabyne in 2006.
An interesting fact of Lake Jindabyne is that the lake is actually man made and was created by damming the river as part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme developed in the 1940’s.
Visiting Jindabyne and the Snowy Wilderness will provide plenty of environmental action. A popular activity is horseback riding to grasp the true beauty of the countryside. You can even ride alongside the wild brumbies and it is definitely the hot ticket on anyone’s adventure here. Alternatively for more adrenalin action why not go quad bike riding or see the area from the comfort of a four wheel drive.
There is always plenty of nightlife in Jindabyne. Generally Wednesday is the pay day of most who work on the mountain and it sees the town come to life with activity. Three hotspots to party at are the Banjo Paterson Inn, the Lake Jindabyne Hotel and the Station Resort.
