Narooma Information
Narooma is a town on the coast New South Wales with a relatively small population of about 5,000 people and was first settled in 1881. The name Narooma is an aboriginal word meaning “Clear Blue Waters”.
A major tourist attraction to Narooma is Montague Island. This national park and wildlife reserve is located just 8 kilometres from the shore of Narooma. With 83 hectares of wildlife you will experience magnificent nature in particular the penguin colonies that inhabit the island.
There are also plenty of other scenic places around Narooma for tourists to enjoy such as the cliff top golf course where spectacular views of the coastline will take your breath away.
Whale watching is also very prevalent. Many whale watching enthusiasts visit Narooma to go on a charter boat and see the whales off the coast.
Fishing is also very popular with plenty of to catch especially flathead, bream and tailor. If you do try your luck fishing then please make sure to follow the government regulations as size and bag limits do apply.
Another amazing place to visit while staying in Narooma is Glasshouse Rocks, located to the south of the township. Nearby is also the famous Australia hole which when taking a photo upwards out from the rocks you will see an outline the shape of Australia. Just ask the locals where the spot is and like everyone in the town of Narooma they will be happy to point out the way there.
Also enjoy the nightlife and entertainment in Narooma that can be described as vibrant and thriving. Many of the towns clubs and hotels bring excellent live acts from afar for your enjoyment. Whatever you do don’t miss the Blues & Rockabilly festival which happens every year in October.
