South West Rocks Information
South West Rocks in New South Wales is located on the mouth of the Macleay River. The town has a population of around 4,500 residents and during the holiday seasons there is a significant influx in tourists.
South West Rocks got its name as ships and vessels would moor their boats South West near the rocks at Laggers Point.
There are five suburbs in the area of South West Rocks being Arkoon, New Entrance, Jerseyville, Oceanside and Spencerville. Arkoon is the most popular to see as it features the Trial Bay Gaol which housed prisoners in the early 1900’s.
Another great attraction in the area is the Smoky Cape Lighthouse, which features magnificent views to the ocean. The lighthouse is the most elevated lighthouse in Australia and is perfect for sightseeing.
South West Rocks is also a well-known holiday spot for the beach lifestyle. The best spots to relax oceanside include Main Beach, Trial Bay Beach and Little Bay. There are also ample of charter boats that operate in the area for casual cruises and fishing tours.
Canoeing along the various waterways and inlets in South West Rock is another fun thing to do. The best canoeing trips are along Saltwater creek towards Arakoon and the Saltwater Lagoon located in the Trial Bay Eco Tourist Park.
Diving is spectacular in South West Rocks and the area has been voted as one of the top ten best diving spots in Australia. The most popular dive is the Fish Rock Cave off Craggy Island that features a cave dive a staggering 120 metres long.
Golfing enthusiasts can enjoy a round of golf at the South West Rocks Country Club. The golf course features a challenging 18-hole layout and is well know for grey kangaroos on the course.
