The Entrance Information
The Entrance is a coastal paradise in New South Wales with a moderate population of about 3,000 people. The town is named The Entrance as it is located on the entrance to the Tuggerah Lakes making it an extremely popular tourism spot.
The Entrance was founded by Colonel Collins the ex-governor of Tasmania. Throughout its history The Entrance region was occupied and owned by some significantly wealthy individuals and families during the period 1828 to 1910. In recent years The Entrance has been transformed from small holiday cottages being redeveloped into now multi-story apartment blocks.
Noticeable wildlife attractions are the pelicans seen around the place giving The Entrance the title of “The Pelican Capital of Australia”. As part of the push to promote tourism in town, the Wyong council has built the pelican feeding platform where at 3.30pm every day pelicans are feed in great numbers. With so many pelicans this place provides a surreal tourism experience for anyone visiting.
The beaches around The Entrance are pristine and perfect to enjoy swimming, surfing, fishing, boating and the usual holiday action activities.
The Entrance Cinema is very well renowned for its history and is a well worth place to relax and see a movie. Recently when the Da Vinci code movie was released, this cinema banned it from being screened causing a public outcry. It is also mysterious as when it was officially opened the other cinema in town burnt down the same year.
A great event at The Entrance is the annual Mardi Gra festival in the first week of December. The event is the town’s major drawcard and draws crowds from afar. Apart from the usual floats of a Mardi Gra there are also fireworks and live concerts to liven up things. If you are travelling near The Entrance around December then it is well worth putting this place on your itinerary list.
