Woolgoolga Information
Woolgoolga in New South Wales in a medium sized town with a population of about 5,000 people. The name originates from the Aboriginal name of “Weelgoolga” which is the name for the Lilly-pilly trees that grow in the area. Woolgoolga is very much a multicultural town with a significant Indian Heritage and culture to see. Locals also like to nickname their town “Woopi”.
Located on the coast makes Woolgoolga a perfect holiday destination especially during summer months when many families and holidaymakers come to the area. In recent years the annual Curryfest festival held in April has also become one of the biggest drawcards in bringing thousands of tourists to Woolgoolga.
Woolgoolga Beach is popular for Swimming and Surfing where you can relax in safety with lifesavers that patrol the beach. There are also plenty of other ocean activities such as diving, whale watching tours, fishing charters, sight seeing cruises and more. Woolgoolga Headland offers great views to the ocean over Solitary Island and is a renowned spot for snorkelling and where you can see whales and dolphins from the coastline.
A great attraction to see in the area is the Indian Guru Nanak Gurdwara Temple. The pure white temple with its golden domes and elephants is nicknamed “The Temple on the Hill” and is frequented by the large skih population. A great place for your holiday photo too.
Shopping in the area is excellent and there is a monthly market if you are looking for locally made goods and produce. The Woolgoolga Arts and Crafts Gallery in town is also worth a visit and features and extensive range of artworks.
Coffs Harbour is also located just 20 kilometres away. This means that you get all the benefits that Coffs Harbour has to offer in a short 25-minute drive should you want to take a day trip out of Woolgoolga.
