Bowen Information

Bowen in Queensland is a fairly sizable town of about 8,000 people residing here. Being located between Mackay and Townsville, Bowen receives quite a bit of tourist visitors that pass through on their journey.

Climate is in the dry tropics so there is the warm weather of a tropical climate but much dryer than expected. The Great Barrier Reef offshore provides excellent marine life to explore.

Although Bowen has some industries which are primarily in agriculture and mining, it is tourism that is a growing trend for the town.

The most famous statute in town is the famous big mango. Celebrating one of Queensland’s biggest local producing fruit in Bowen, this place makes the perfect picture on your holiday travels for your photo album.

There are eight pristine beaches surrounding Bowen. The most popular would be Kings Beach, Rose Bay and Queens Beach. When you visit Kings Beach you can catch glimpses of nearby Gloucester Island, a very popular island people visit when travelling to Bowen.

Golfing fans can enjoy a round of golf overlooking Queens Beach. The picturesque scenery is sure to either distract or better inspire your golfing game.

One of Bowen’s great spots is Muller’s Lagoon. The Lagoon is situated on 23.7 hectares of parkland in the town centre which has been turned into one of Queensland’s most impressive botanical gardens. You can enjoy picnics and barbeques here with plenty of wildlife to entertain your senses.

Bowen also features 24 different murals that are painted on walls throughout town. All are historic and proudly display the streets of Bowen from settlement to the present day. There is even a mural tour group available which will explain the facts behind each great work of public art.
