Caloundra Queensland

Caloundra in Queensland is a very large population of about 95,000 people. The name comes from the aboriginal word “Kalowendah” which translates as “Place of the Beech Trees”.

Tourism in the area is very large and there are heaps of things to do and see for travellers.

There are many beaches in Caloundra to choose from to relax. Golden and Moffat Beaches are ideal for boating, surfing and fishing. Kings Beach is perfect for picnics. Bulcock beach is ideal for board walks and wind-surfing. Shelly beach however is more of a picturesque beach to relax and soak up the sun as it doesn’t have the crowds due to swimming being dangerous with rough waves and rocks.

Apart from many pristine beaches, Caloundra also has some very interesting tourist icons. The Ettamogah Pub is a must visit destination. This cartoon like pub is has now been replicated in some other states because it is just too cute for words.

If you are staying in Caloundra it is also well worthwhile going for a drive to the see the famous Australia Zoo in the Beerwah/Glass House Mountains. Aussie World also close by and provides a theme park with a uniquely Australian feel.

While at the Glass House Mountains also enjoy some sightseeing in the national park. Coonowrin one of the mountains in the park was once a volcano that has been shaped into a very picturesque scene over the last 27 million years.

The Queensland Air Museum in Caloundra is also another splendid place to see. It was started in 1973 by a group of aviation enthusiast and houses one of the most fascinating collections. Even if you don’t have a passion for airplanes you will appreciate the history it represents.
