Childers Information
Childers located Queensland is another small town with a population of about 1,500 people. Childers is very renowned for its heritage and character with some buildings dating back to the early pioneering days. There are so many colonial buildings in the main street of town that it has a reputation for being one of Queensland’s most picturesque towns.
Predominantly Childers is an agricultural community with lots of cane farming as well as fruit and vegetable crops grown in the area.
Being not far from the coastline of Queensland Childers makes a great holiday destination. You will feel as though you are in the middle of the outback in Queensland and the town offers peace and tranquillity.
The Village Markets on the Historical Society grounds in Childers are held on the third Sunday of each month. Pick up some home grown fruit and produce or buy some handmade goods from the locals in town.
Childers Regional Art Gallery is also another place of interest. There are always various exhibitions held and sometimes the art gallery features some of Australia’s most prominent artists such as Arthur Boyd, Whitley and Drysdale.
Since various cultures from all over the world have made it their home the Childers Festival of Cultures is held every year in July. The annual event celebrates the diversity of cultures and is a fantastic event to see and experience. It really celebrates Australia’s multi cultural society and how Australian’s respect each other’s cultural background.
The Orchid Society holds the annual Orchid Show around September. Every year the event gets bigger and bigger with heaps of stall holders displaying their variety of orchids and garden plants. If you forgot your partners birthday or anniversary last year then make it up to them by going to the orchid show.
