Dalby Information
Dalby is just 210Kms from the capital of Brisbane. It is named after the English town of Dalby on the Isle of Man as in the nineteenth century many people immigrated here from Dalby in England.
With a population of about 13,000 people and located in the Darling Downs Region of Queensland, Dalby is one of Australia’s richest grain and cotton growing areas.
There are several tourist attractions to see and experience in Dalby. One of these experiences is the heritage listed Jimbour House which was built in 1876. Although remaining a private residence and vineyard there are tours available to experience the history of this magnificent mansion.
Also see the Pioneer Park Museum. Containing probably the biggest collection of working tractors and agricultural machinery it also boasts vintage cars from the late 1800’s to the early 1930’s. Well worth a visit and it also features a craft store to look at.
If you are visiting with kids then look no further than a picnic at Thomas Jack Park. There are ample playgrounds with swings, slides and see saws to keep the little ones entertained.
For Historian buffs the Cactoblastis Memorial Cairn is an interesting fascist to see. It was erected in 1965 in honour of a tiny moth species which saved the Darling Downs region from the prickly pear invasion.
For the energetic and nature lovers a visit to Lake Broadwater can provide a magnificent experience. Go waterskiing, windsurfing or fishing on the lake. Eco enthusiasts will love the bushwalking, birdlife and camping experiences.
It is also well worth visiting the Bunya Mountains which lie north-east of Dalby. They take their name from the impressive Bunya pine trees and the spot is very picturesque.
