Gladstone is a relative big city with a population of about 30,000 people and was established in 1802.
The city abundant with tourist attractions and Gladstone people thrive on the marine lifestyle. This is Australia’s highest boat ownership community and each year the Gladstone Harbour festival is held in Easter along with the Gladstone Yacht Race to celebrate the boating lifestyle.
The Great Barrier Reef situated off Gladstone makes a perfect adventure. Famous islands such as Heron, Wilson, Lady Musgrave, Lady Elliot and Fitzroy Reef Lagoon each provide their different experiences.
Without a boat there is still plenty of action at the Gladstone Marina, Spinnaker Park and Barney Point Beach which is perfect for leisure activities or enjoying the good old Aussie barbeque.
Eco enthusiasts will enjoy 83 hectares of wildlife at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens. This is one of Australia’s few totally native gardens with lakes, forest and the must do Mt Biondello bush walk. There is also a Japanese Teahouse built in 2000 providing impressive scenery.
The Gecko Valley Winery is another fascinating place. Not just your ordinary winery but more like a national park situated on 100 hectares with fountains, waterfalls and even 150 rose bushes.
The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery is housed in the heritage listed town hall one of Gladstone’s most impressive landmarks and here you will find plenty of plenty of Australian artworks by distinguished artists.
There is also plenty of shopping for visitors throughout Gladstone. The five main shopping precincts are Kin Kora Centre, Valley Precinct, Gladstone Central, Toolooa Village and Gladstone City Heart located in the central business district.
