Kingaroy Information
Kingaroy in Queensland is a town with a population of about 12,000 residents. Kingaroy’s name is derived from the Aboriginal word of "Wakka Wakka" which is a name meaning “red ant” as there are several red ants found in the area which adapt to the rich red soils of Kingaroy.
The area is also the peanut capital of Australia as the town hosts Australia’s biggest peanut processing plant. The annual Kingaroy Peanut Festival is held each October in recognition to the industry.
Although being a relatively small town, Kingaroy features some large commercial shopping centres such as Big W and Woolworths along with a variety of specialty retailers.
The climate is tropical with low humidity so you will find the temperature very enjoyable when coming here. Having such magnificent weather conditions, Kingaroy is excellent for taking an Eco adventure tour. The Booie Range is a must see destination and hosts heaps of wineries and cellar doors to enjoy some wine tasting.
The town also has two lookouts near Mt Wooroolin and Apex Park in Fisher Street. Both provide panoramic views and are perfect for a picnic with sight seeing views.
Kingaroy Shire Art gallery and the Heritage Museum are two other must see and explore places in town. If you love heritage, history and the arts then make this your first stop.
Major events in Kingaroy include the Wine and Food in the Park Festival held every March and the famous Kingaroy Show in May.
There are also famous people who were born and reside here. The former Premier of Queensland Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen and his wife claim Kingaroy as their home town in Queensland. There is also plenty of Cricketers and Rugby union champions that come from Kingaroy.
