Rainbow Beach in Queensland is a very popular tourist destination. The name comes from the rainbow coloured sand dunes surrounding the area. There are over 74 different shades of colour you can see in the dunes which makes this holiday destination a magical experience.
The Aboriginal people believe that the Yiningie spirit plunged into the dunes after doing battle with evil tribesmen.
Nearby the Great Sandy National Park is an environmental oasis tourists and nature lovers will enjoy. There are many different species of wildlife especially many varieties of birdlife so bird watching is a must do activity in the area.
The wonderful ocean lifestyle also provides plenty of action for your enjoyment. Go swimming, boating, waterskiing, diving, snorkelling or just simply laze in the sun.
Rainbow Beach is also a fantastic place for some Australian four wheel driving experience. Many 4wd enthusiasts from all over Australia come here but if you are from overseas don’t worry as you can hire your own 4wd and enjoy some action and excitement.
Hang gliding is another popular activity to do and definitely a fantastic experience seeing the wonderful scenery of Rainbow Beach from above.
Another great experience is to sail on a yacht. Charters are available which also give you comprehensive sail training. Once out on the beautiful waters you will no doubt see dolphins, turtles, dugongs and heaps of fish.
Fishing is highly recommended when visiting Rainbow Beach. There are heaps of places to explore with over 100 kilometres of beach. Favourite catches include Tailor, Jewfish and flathead.
While staying at Rainbow beach also take a tour to nearby Fraser Island. At Fraser Island you can explore a wonderful world heritage rainforest with crystal clear lakes and white sandy beaches.
