Beachport Information

Beachport is a small coastal holiday town on the Limestone Coast well known for its 722 metre long Jetty which is the second longest jetty in South Australia. Beachport was established in 1878 as a whaling station and is named after Michael Hicks Beach the former British Secretary of State for the Colonies.

The main industry to Beachport is Cray fishing and crabbing with tourism a growing industry attracting holidaymakers in particular people who enjoy boating and fishing.

A popular seaside spot in Beachport is at Rivoli Bay, which is idyllic for safe swimming and snorkelling. The nearby Pool of Siloam is another hotspot that is a natural phenomenon. Pool of Siloam is a natural salt lake fed by underground springs and swimming in the lake has a reputation for its therapeutic benefits.

The nearby Lake George is another great attraction in particular for water sports like water skiing and jet skiing. Lake George is also a great place for nature lovers as it features plenty of water birds and wildlife.

Beachport Conservation Park is another great place to visit for wildlife enthusiasts. The conservation park goes from sandy beaches to rugged coastal cliffs and contains Aboriginal shell middens.

A great event not to miss in Beachport is the annual Lions Club fishing competition. The event is held at the Salmon Hole and runs for two weeks in the early July school holidays. More information on the competition is available at the Jetty Shop.

Beachport Market Day is another great event not to miss. The markets happen throughout the year at different intervals and are held along Railway Terrace. There are a variety stalls with locals selling fresh produce to locally made arts and crafts.
