Port Lincoln Information
Port Lincoln in South Australia is a costal city located on the Boston Bay with a population of about 14,500 people. The aboriginal Parnkalla people lived in the area before white settlement in the early 1800’s.
Matthew Flinders founded the area and named it Port Lincoln as it was a great shipping harbour and he originated from Lincoln in England. Port Lincoln was originally going to be the capital of South Australia but due to the lack of drinking water Adelaide won the race.
The economy of Port Lincoln relies heavily on Fishing and tourism is also fast growing as many come to Port Lincoln for their coastal holiday. Fishing is excellent in the area especially for Bluefin Tuna, Giant Yellowtail Kingfish and Snapper. There are numerous fishing charters available for your holiday adventure.
For adrenalin action Port Lincoln is also a great place to go Shark Cage Diving where you go face to face with huge white pointer sharks. For a different kind of snorkelling experience, Adventure Bay Charters also provides a unique experience where you can snorkel with a massive school of tuna.

The Axel Sternross Maritime Museum on Lincoln Highway is well worth visiting too. The 25-year-old museum displays the history of the famous Axel Stenross ship builder and there is a vast collection of historic boats, artefacts and photographs.
An event not to miss in Port Lincoln is the annual Tunarama Festival held every year in January. A highlight of the event is the famous John West Tuna Toss where competitors see who can throw a 10-kilogram tuna the farthest. The event also of course includes plenty of seafood.
