Renmark Information
Renmark in South Australia is a town located on the banks of the Murray River with a population of about 9,000 people. The word Renmark in the aboriginal language means “Red Mud”. George and William Chaffey established the town in 1904 by planting orchards in the area.
The surrounding areas of Renmark are good cultivation areas and farming is rife with crops such as grapes, tomatoes, oranges, almonds, wool and wheat being grown. Renmark is also famous for being the closest town to the vineyard that created the box wine or as known by Australian’s as goon.
A great attraction is the Murray River with popular tourist activities being fishing, boating and water-skiing. Houseboats are available for rent in Renmark and a river cruise down the Murray River provides some spectacular scenery.
The Riverland is Australia’s largest wine areas producing a staggering 50% of the total wine produced in South Australia. Renmark is the heart of the Riverland and many travellers and tourists come to see some of the big name vineyards that are located close by.
Monash Adventure Park is another big tourist attraction and provides fun for all ages. The adventure park features a wave bridge, leaning towers, flying foxes and a Burmese rope bridge.
Golfing enthusiasts can enjoy a round of golf at the Renmark Golf and Country Club located at the entrance of the Stuart Highway.
A place not to miss in Renmark is Ruston’s Roses and Visitors Centre, which contains Australia’s largest Rose Garden. There are more that 50,000 rose bushes growing. The visitor centre also features the classic car museum that will delight any motoring enthusiast.
