Vivonne Bay Information
Vivonne Bay is a popular tourist destination and is situated on Kangaroo Island and is perfectly located to the islands top tourist attractions. Vivonne Bay was first discovered in 1803 by French explorer Nicolas Baudin who named the bay.
A major attraction for holidaymakers is the beachside lifestyle with pristine white sandy beaches. Vivonne Bay features a sheltered bay nestled between Seal Bay and Vivonne Bay Conservation Park.
In 2003 Vivonne Bay was voted as Australia’s best beach out of thousands of beaches around Australia. Swimming is popular and most times throughout the year you can be the only person enjoying 20 kilometres of beach without the holiday crowds found elsewhere.
Vivonne Bay is also home to the lobster fishing fleet on Kangaroo Island. Fishing is exceptional and many come to fish on the shores of the beach or the town’s jetty that provides some of the best catches on Kangaroo Island.
A very popular nearby attraction is Seal Bay Conservation Park where you can see large Australian Sea Lion colonies living on the beach. Visitors to Seal Bay are advised to take the guided tour as general wandering alone along with the seals is prohibited.
Another great place to see is Little Sahara which is located 7 kms away. Visitors will be amazed with spectacular white sand dunes that spring out of the bush vegetation. Toboggan and sand boarding is permitted and equipment is available for hire in the Vivonne Bay township.
Quad-bike riding around Vivonne Bay is another popular holiday activity. There are heaps of bushland trails for your fun and enjoyment. Quad group tours are available and for more details contact Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action.
