Beauty Point Information
Beauty point is a small town located on the Tamar River in Tasmania with a population of about 2,000 people. The town was first established as a port to service the Beaconsfield Gold Mine. After the gold rush period the town became a major apple exporting centre.
Fishing is a great drawcard to Beauty point as the town is located on one of the deepest points of the Tamar River and the best place to fish is from the town’s wharf. Other water sports are popular with boat cruises on the Tamar River offering spectacular scenery and wildlife.
One of the star attractions in Beauty Point is Seahorse World located at the Head Wharf off Flinders street. The fascinating aquarium is dedicated to the preservation of seahorses with various species found all over Australia. The conservation tour is highly recommended, providing a visual and educational experience not to miss.
Platypus House located at Head Wharf is also very popular with tourists. The Platypus is one of Australia’s iconic mammals and is featured on the Australian 20 cent coin. The tour provides an informative look at the life of the Platypus and its natural Australian habitat where it is found.
A great day trip is to visit Beaconsfield and experience the mine tour. The Beaconsfield Mine was made famous when in April 2006 the mine collapsed trapping 17 miners underground. The tour provides an informative insight as to what happened.
Another great day trip in Rowella where you will find Lavender House Perfumery. Anyone who appreciated a fantastic aroma will love the guided tour which teaches the manufacturing and production of the lavender plant.
An event not to miss in Beauty Point is the Australian Three Peaks Race held every Easter long weekend.
