Binalong Bay Information

Binalong Bay in Tasmania is a small coastal village located on the southern end of the Bay of Fires region. The Bay of Fires runs from Binalong Bay all the way past Ansons Bay to Eddystone Point. It was given the name Bay of Fires by Captain Tobias Furneaux in 1773 that saw aboriginal people light fires on the beaches.

Although Binalong Bay only has a population of around 200 people many are involved in the tourism industry for your Tasmanian coastal holiday enjoyment. Originally the township was established as a fishing hamlet and today Bingle Bay is a hidden gem to experience. The local harbour is known as “The Gulch” and was once the site of a big fishing industry.

The first thing you may notice when visiting Binalong is the magnificent white sandy beaches that are unpopulated like other tourist destinations. All round Binalong is the perfect holiday for the Australian beach lifestyle with excellent swimming, snorkelling, diving, boating and more.

The best part to a holiday in Binalong Bay is that the climate is also moderate so you can enjoy the perfect sunshine beach day without the scorching weather found on mainland Australia.

The Conservation area surrounding Binalong Bay is a great environmental attraction for any nature lover. There are plenty of walking tracks where you can take in some magnificent wildlife and bird watching is a must. There are also Aboriginal middens which are shell and bone deposits found in the sand dunes.

Scuba diving is another must do activity when staying at Binalong Bay. The dive experience is unlike any other as you dive amongst huge granite boulders along the reef system with tunnels and gutters. You will see plenty of ocean life including colourful sponges, kelp, crayfish, sea dragons, dolphins and more. You may even spot whales which migrate in October & November through the area.
