Bridport Information
Bridport in Tasmania is located on Anderson Bay and is a popular holiday destination particularly in summer months when the population triples.
In 1978 Bass and Flinders discovered Bridport, however the area was not settled until 1830 when Thomas Lewis and Chinese tin miners came to the area. The port was used for the timber industry in early settlement.
Bridport is best known for its magnificent beaches and holidaymakers can enjoy the ocean lifestyle with sports like swimming, snorkeling, sailing, water skiing and fishing. Bridport was also the site of Australia’s first rainbow trout farm.
One of the Highlights in Bridport is the Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links, which was created in 2004. The Barnbougle is set on 200 acres of undulating coastal dunes and is the creative genius of famed golf architect Tom Doak and Australia's Michael Clayton. Barnbougle, still only in its youth, continues to gain a reputation as one of the world's top links golf courses. The breathtaking landscape upon which the course has been created mirrors the wild coastal links courses of Scotland and Ireland and as Barnbougle continues to develop with age it looks set to follow in the footsteps of these great courses.
Nature lovers will also enjoy the environment at Granite Point Conservation area. The reserve includes many threatened species of wildlife including the eastern barred bandicoot, wedge tailed eagle and the green and gold bell frog. There are also many wonderful flowers to discover at the flower reserve.
Another spectacular place to visit is the Flying Teapot Garden Café and Gallery in Bridport. The Flying Teapot is part of the Manalanga Angus cattle farm, which is set in delightful gardens. Roger and Wendy McLennan own the farm and Roger is an ultra-light aircraft operator so you can choose to fly to the farm for one sensational experience.
