Cygnet Information
Cygnet in Tasmania is a small town located in the Huon Valley with a population of about 1,000 people. French Navigator Bruni D’Entrecasteaux named the area Port des Cygnes meaning “Port of Swans”. The township was originally settled and established as a shipbuilding business by William Nichols in 1834.
One of the greatest attractions in the area is the Cygnet Living History Museum, which displays photographs, artefacts and information on the history of Cygnet. The museum was established in November 2000 and is rapidly growing all the time as the locals of Cygnet get behind the museum with their own personal papers, photographs and memorabilia from their family history.
One event not to miss is Cygnet the Cygnet Regatta boat Race. Established as one of the great boat races in Tasmania the regatta is now one of the largest boat races held every year. The boat race features races from Hobart to Kettering and Kettering to Cygnet. The event is free and a worthwhile experience on your holiday adventure.
