New Norfolk in Tasmania is a medium sized town situated on the Derwent River with a population of about 6,000 people. When the township was established in 1807 the townspeople planted hundreds of poplar trees, which now make New Norfolk the best place to visit in autumn season.

A great way to observe New Norfolk is the Pulpit Rock lookout. The panoramic views will leave your breathless. Another great lookout is the Peppermint Hill lookout. Both Lookouts are the ideal place to enjoy your perfect picnic.

New Norfolk also has some amazing history for you to discover on you holiday. St Mathews Anglican Church built in 1823 is one of Tasmania’s oldest churches in Australia. New Norfolk also has the oldest licensed hotel in Australia the “Bush Inn”. Another great historical site is Willow Court the former Royal Derwent Hospital with plenty of elegance and character.

The Derwent Valley Heritage Railway operates form New Norfolk that was opened in 1886. It has had a peculiar history as several times it closed due to floods. Today the Derwent Valley Inc Society has 8 locomotives, 9 carriages and 11 wagons for your perfect holiday experience. The best experience is on Sundays as the railway has short trips (1 hour) for your enjoyment.

Rosedown Cottage Gardens is another great stop to see. Here hundreds of roses bloom in the delightful settings of a half-acre garden. Rosedown Cottage is a worthwhile place to visit for any flower connoisseur.
