Rosebery Information
Rosebery in Tasmania is a town located near Mt Murchison and has a relatively small population of about 1,000 people. Like many other towns on the west coast of Tasmania, Rosebery is primarily a mining town. In the 1980’s gold, lead, zinc and copper were discovered. The mines were closed in 1913 however in 1927 the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company revived the mining, which still operates today by Pasminco.
An interesting aspect of Rosebery is that the mining operations have produced more value per dollar than any other mine on the east coast of Tasmania. Pasminco operates mine tours for your enjoyment to give you an insight into the world of mining in Australia. The mining tours are split to above and below ground and are a definite must do activity when visiting Rosebery.
Another fantastic tourist attraction nearby is Montezuma Falls, which is Tasmania’s highest waterfall and located just two kilometres away from Rosebery. The waterfall is 104 meters and is surrounded with excellent rainforest for the perfect eco adventure. For a smaller and more local waterfall check out Stitt falls which is located in the heart of Rosebery.
Rosebery also boasts a magnificent gold course, which claims to be the steepest golf course in Australia. The golf course is surrounded by rainforest so you can enjoy a nice game of golf while admiring the environmental surroundings.
There are three major events not to miss when coming to Rosebery on your holiday. The first one is the Folk Festival weekend held in the middle of February every year, The second is the Rosebery Athletics Carnival held in the middle of December and the most important not to miss event is the Targa Tasmania which features cars racing through Rosebery every year throughout April/May.
Rosebery is also an excellent place to go for the perfect 4wd holiday adventure.
