Stanley Information
Stanley in Tasmania is a tourist destination and main fishing port in northwest of Tasmania. The township has a very small population of only about 500 people but is definitely a fantastic place to visit on your travels.
The area was named after Lord Stanley, The former British Prime Minister who had three terms of office and was a former Secretary of State for War and the Colonies.
The most distinguishing landmark of Stanly is “The NUT” which is an old volcanic plug, which remains an icon of the area. The nut rises to 143 meters with a distinctively flat top. There is a steep track where you can climb to the top and walk along the flattop. The Nut also has a chairlift that will take you to the peak for your panoramic view of the area.
Fishing enthusiasts are encouraged to visit the northern point of The Nut, as there is plenty of fish catch. Nature lovers however will no doubt bask in the beautiful scenery and wildlife especially birds that surround the area. Many Artists and painters throughout their travels have visited the Nut as a place to seek their inspiration for their work.
A great adventure is to take a tour with Tarkine Helicopter Tour from the Tall Timbers Tasmania, which is a privately owned and operated hotel with a multi-award winning history for our customer service and excellence in hospitality services. Located at Smithton in North West Tasmania, the property provides adventure tours - a gateway to the "Edge of the World" and Tarkine regions that are "must visit" destinations on any Tasmanian Holiday.
