Victoria, although the smallest of the states on Mainland Australia is the second most populated and the number one for density of population with just over 5.5 million people and 70% of them living in the state capital region of Melbourne.
Situated in the south east of the continent and bordered by NSW to the north, South Australia to the west and the Bass Straight to the south, Victoria has a diverse geographical set-up with the Gippsland Wet Area to the South East, Semi-Arid regions to the North West, the Snow Fields of the Victorian Alps and an extensive river system including the Murray River, Snowy River, the Yarra, Goulburn River, Ovens and a host of others. For the fishermen out there, a good river system means good fishing among other wet sports such as Canoeing and Water Skiing. In fact, if it is sport you are after, then Victoria is the place to go. It is probably the sports capital of Australia with Melbourne its centre of attraction.
