Anglesea Information

Anglesea in Victoria is a great holiday town located on the Great Ocean Road. The town has a population of about 3,500 people and was established in 1884. Anglesea is a particularly popular tourist destination especially in summer holidays, Christmas and New Years when many people come down from Melbourne.

The beach is fantastic for swimming and other beach activities. Surfing is good too however many surfers tend to go to Government Beach as the surfing conditions are better with greater swells and waves.

The Anglesea Golf Club is a must visit place when travelling to Anglesea. Not just because it provides the perfect 18 hole challenging course, but it is well known for its abundant kangaroos population which are spread out all over the golf course.

Another great activity to do in Anglesea is to experience canoeing. Whether you choose to go on the Anglesea River or in the open ocean canoeing is a fun holiday sport. If you didn’t come with your canoe or kayak, don’t worry, as Anglesea Paddle Boat and Canoe Hire will be happy to rent you one.

Horse riding is also very popular in Anglesea. Blazing saddles, which is located nearby Anglesea host, one of the best horse trails in the western part of Victoria. The riding trail is eco certified and will lead your through the wilderness to the beach.

During December an event not to miss in Anglesea is the annual Anglesea Rock to ramp ocean swim. The event is held at point Roadnight beach. The event has become so popular over the recent years that nearly 1,000 people now enter the event.

If you are looking for the perfect holiday present or want some local produce, then the Anglesea Riverbank markets are held on Sundays throughout January, March, Easter and during the Melbourne cup. The markets are held on Anglesea’s main street, the Great Ocean Road.
