Heathcote sits in the heart of central Victoria, 110 kms north of Melbourne and 40 kms south east of Bendigo nestled between the spectacular landscapes of the McHarg and McIvor Ranges.
With almost 2,700 people and boasting the longest High Street in Victoria, Heathcote is the closest major town to the fabulous Lake Eppalock and the stunning surroundings of the Heathcote-Greytown National Park.
There is spectacular scenery which ever way you look. A healthy half-hour walk and you can be gazing over the Heathcote Township from Viewing Rock. Alternatively, a more arduous climb or a short car journey will take you to the summit of Mount Ida. From here, the views stretch into the horizon over Parks, Bushland, Forests and Mountains; it is like sitting on top of the world.
One of the must see attractions in the Heathcote area are the amazingly colourful, Pink Hills. Take an amble through these mini gorges into history and witness some of the most incredible colourful rock formations ever uncovered.
For the real outdoor adventurer, there is Bushwalking, Cycling, Orienteering, Sightseeing, Photography and hundreds of species of birds and wildflowers. You can even try your hand at Gold Prospecting or Gemstone Fossicking.
Keen golfers can enjoy a round at one of the top rural golf courses in the state whilst being enthralled by the natural bush setting and wild life, such as the Kangaroos that are evident in abundance.
After a hectic day of golfing, you can relax and enjoy a sumptuous meal in one of the towns many restaurants, accompanied by a new addition to the regions popularity, Red Wine.
Although a relatively new wine region, Heathcote is developing a reputation for some of the finest Shiraz in the world.
