Johanna Information
Johanna in Victoria is a small coastal town very popular for tourism. The township is named after the Johanna sailing vessel that shipwrecked 157 years ago at the mouth of the Johanna River.
Surfing at Johanna is extremely popular and the surfing conditions are some of the best in Australia. Every year the Bells Beach Surf Classic is held at Bells Beach, however on many occasions when the swell has been too flat for the competition it was held at Johanna instead.
Johanna Beach is also very popular for the morning or evening beach stroll. The walk will no doubt captivate you with the rugged beauty of the coastal cliffs that meet the water along the shores.
Fishing is also a great activity and Johanna Surf Beach hosts some excellent beach fishing spots to ensure a great catch. There are plenty of salmon, snapper, and mulloway all year round. Best bait seems to be squid, mullet or metal lures for the best catches.
Nearby Johanna is the Great Otway National Park. The National park contains excellent wildlife and fauna as well as waterfalls to see. There are also camping grounds available in case you want to spend the night out in the wilderness and wildlife.
Staying for your holiday in Johanna is a wise move as the area is also located nearby some of the greatest attractions Victoria has to offer like the twelve apostles. Although the apostles are located between Port Campbell and Princetown they are easily within driving distance from Johanna and make the perfect day trip.
Another nearby day trip not to far away is the Cape Otway lighthouse, which is Australia’s oldest operational lighthouse and located in some pristine wilderness and costal cliffs.
There are also some great wineries in the surrounding region of Johanna that are well worth discovering.
