Metung Information
Metung in Victoria is a popular holiday destination with a population of about 1,500 people. Located on the Gippsland Lakes the township offers popular water sport activities such as swimming, diving, boating, waterskiing and fishing.
Originally inhabited by the Aboriginal people, Metung features an unusual site known as Legend Rock located at the boardwalk near the Metung Marina. As the story tells the rock was a top fishing spot and is now a protected place. So if you are after a great spot for fishing then nearby Legend Rock is recommended.
Geographically Metung is situated between Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale, which make Metung one of the best places to stay, as both are located not to far away in case you decide to go for a casual day trip to explore the region.
Best swimming in the area can be found on Lake King, which is sheltered from waves and is a very popular spot for families, and holidaymakers who are seeing a relaxing tranquil spot by the water.
Nature lovers will enjoy the nearby Nyermilang Heritage Park located just 8 kilometres away from Metung. The park is ideal for picnics and nature boasting wonderful gardens and a magnificent view across the Reeve channel. There are also lots of walking tracks through the forest and some historical tracks such as the Homestead track, which features a tour of the Nyerimilang homestead.
Golfing is exceptional at the Kings Grove Metung Golf Course located in Kings Boulevard. The Golf course is internationally acclaimed and famous golfer Ted Parslow designed the course. After a nice round of golf, the club also features the Season Restaurant & Bar with a la carte menu of Australian cuisine.
An event not to miss is the Metung Farmers market held every second Saturday. Here you can find some excellent local produce and hand crafted goods.
