Mildura Information
Mildura in Victoria is a large rural city located on the Murray River with a population about 32,000 people. Mildura was first established in 1887 as a sheep station and in the Aboriginal language means “Red Sand” which is a notable aspect of the surrounding landscape.
There are some top attractions in town and one of the best is the Chaffey Trail. The guided tour celebrated and highlights the development of the areas fruit growing in particular orange growing, which Mildura is today famous for. The tour also gives history and shows the pioneering spirit, which helped establish the area.
The Murray River also features some great activities such as river cruising in paddle steamers or houseboats. Kayaking, rowing, swimming or fishing the Murray. Bike riding along the river is another popular activity with plenty of wildlife to see.
Just a short drive north from Mildura and located over the border is the Mungo National Park, which makes the perfect day trip from Mildura. The national park features some ancient dry lakes and an extremely popular tourist attraction with tourists staying in Mildura.
A different way to see Mildura is to take a morning balloon flight over the rural scenery. If Ballooning is not your thing there are also various charter flights available for a scenic holiday flight.
Snakes and Ladders in Mildura is a fantastic family fun park well worth visiting. The parks attractions include playgrounds, go-karts, minigolf and for something unusual, the Australian dinkum dunny display.
Mildura is also part of the Australian fruit fly exclusion zone. To stop the devastation to local crops all visitors to Mildura are asked not to bring fruit into town. So if you are travelling along the highway to Mildura please dispose of any fruit or vegetables in the disposal bins provided alongside the highway.
