Mt Beauty Information
Mount Beauty is a purpose built Small Township in the alpine region of Victoria. Built in the late 1940’s by the State Electricity Commission to house their workers from the Kiewa Hydroelectric Development in the area, the town was passed onto the local shire council in 1967.
Mount Beauty attracts visitors from all over for the spectacular views of the nearby mountain peaks such as Mount Bogong. With walking and cycling trails littering the landscape and venturing through to the high country of the Bogong Plains, the area elicits a tranquil beauty that shows nature at her very best.
The town is the main point for trips into the alpine ski fields to Falls Creek or Mount Hotham and you will find ample supplies and ski shops where you can hire your equipment for a day on the slopes in the winter months.
Summer, sees hikers, mountain bikers and bushwalkers following some of the original trails used by the aboriginal communities that crossed through the plateau for centuries.
One of the highlights of the year is the Mount Beauty Music Festival, held at the end of April and now in its 11th year, the festival showcases some of the best talent from Blues & Roots, World Music, Bush Poetry and Comedy.
Another great day out is a visit to the Erindale Alpaca Farm where you can hand feed the herd, catch beautiful views of the stunning Kiewa Valley and purchase pure Alpaca Wool garments from the farm shop.
There is also some of the best hang-gliding launch sites close by and the area is home to the Bogong Cup Hang Gliding competition, held in January each year.
For those of you who get your fun hitting a little white ball off trees or into sand pits, the Mount Beauty Golf Course is well worth a visit.
