Rye Information
Rye is an outer suburb of Melbourne with a population of over 8,300 it is located on the Mornington Peninsula in the southern region of Victoria and is a popular tourist spot during the holiday periods, boasting Bay side beaches on its northern end and Ocean beaches to the south.
Rye has been the focal point for relaxation holidays in recent years with the development of the first Natural Hot Springs Spa and Mineral Pools in Victoria. Now, it is possible to bathe in the naturally Healing Waters of Mineral Rich Thermal Pools similar to the Historic and Famous Spas of Europe, Asia, the Americas and New Zealand. These 50° Thermal waters from deep within the Earth are known for their relaxation and therapeutic values.
The location of this attractive town with its north facing sheltered bay is perfect for Swimming, Windsurfing, Sailing and Kite Surfing. For those a little more adventurous, the other side of this peninsula, which is only about 5 kilometres wide at the Rye location, you will find the southern ocean swells of Bass Strait with surf beaches stretching 30 Kilometres along the Mornington Peninsula National Park. However, Swimming is not recommended on these Surf beaches as the rips can be extremely dangerous.
Fishing in the region is immensely popular whether you are looking for the more sedate bay side charter to Troll for Salmon and Cast out for big Red Snapper or the ocean swells cruise to catch a variety of Reef Fish and the really big ones, the Sharks.
Inland, between the ocean and the bay there is the wonderful Olive Groves and Wineries, including the famous Red Hill Estate with over 260 Medals and Trophies awarded for producing some of the finest wines in the World.
For the children, there is the incredible Arthur’s Seat Maze close by. This spectacularly sculptured Topiary at the Enchanted Maze Garden will keep kids young and old amused for hours. It really is a place for the whole family.
