Sale in Victoria is a regional city with a population of about 13,500 people. Established in 1851 Sales was named after General Sir Robert Sales a famous British army officer. During 1965 Sale experienced a boom period due to oil discovery in the region, which makes the oil and gas display centre an attraction to see in Sale.
Lake Guthridge in Sale is an artificial lake about a kilometre in size and a popular tourist attraction for canoeing, sailing or waterskiing. There are also some great fishing spots especially near the port entrance.
For some history one of the best attractions to see is the nearby Kilmany Park and mansion. Located just 5 minutes east of town, the mansion was established in 1841 by William Pearson and is one of the oldest properties in Eastern Victoria. The mansion is also available for accommodation for those that want to stay.
Another great attraction to sale is the Royal Australian Air Force base which is home of the Roulettes. The Roulettes are the formation aerobatic display team which you can see at most popular events in Australia.
A great event not to miss every year in late October early November is the Sale District Agricultural Show. The show features local produce and displays livestock and entertainment. Another great event is the East coast Plumbtec Sale Cup horserace held every year on the 25th October. The race dates back to 1842 and is one of the finest racing venues, which has run some famous horses such as Makybe Dive that went on to win the Melbourne Cup.
For nature, bushwalking and adventure the best place to go is the Holey Plains State Park nearby Sale. The park in over 25,000 acres in size and is well known for its wildlife and diverse fauna. The park was opened back in 1977 and features some excellent open forest and woodlands to discover.
