Seymour Information

Seymour is a mid sized rural township situated on the Goulburn River. The town has a population of just over 6,300 with its predominant industries allied to the agricultural – Equine, Cattle and Sheep – and Wine sectors. The township also provides a large number of civilian personnel to the nearby military base of Puckapunyal, one the most important training centres for the Australian Armed Services.

Each February, the town hosts the annual Alternative Farming Exposition attracting thousands of people from all over Australia. Within the town there is one of the finest Railway Museums around and Seymour station locomotion depot is part of the Seymour Heritage Railway Centre and home to a large collection of Vintage Locomotives, Diesels and rolling stock.

There is an array of Fine Dining facilities in the locality, providing you with a great selection of fresh Local Produce and Wines.

The meandering Goulburn River is a National Trust classified Heritage Waterway and is open to the public where there are excellent facilities for Fishing, Kayaking and Swimming.

Take a walk along the Seymour Heritage Trail and see the abundance of natural wildlife in the area or visit some of the most successful Horse Stud Farms around such as Darley and Swettenham, following your favourite in the numerous races each year at the Seymour Racecourse.

Visit the Puckapunyal forces base housing the Army Tank Museum featuring a superb collection of Historical and Modern Armoured Vehicles from around the world or pay your respects at one of the most famous Memorials in the area.

With Parks and Picnic areas dotting the landscape, designated shopping areas with a mix of supermarkets, food outlets, main retail chains and a variety of sports facilities in the town including an Olympic Pool, Cricket Ovals, Netball and Tennis facilities.
