Traralgon Information
Traralgon in Victoria is located in the Latrobe Valley and is a medium sized city with a population of about 30,000 people. The City was first settled by Europeans in 1840’s.
The economy of Traralgon is heavily influenced on the power industry and paper mills. One of the main employers in the region is Loy Yang Power. Tourism is a growing industry as Traralgon retains some significant historical architecture from its early settlement and two notable structures well worth seeing are the Post Office and Courthouse built in 1886 and the Ryans Hotel established in 1914.
Two of the most famous people to be born in Traralgon include AFL superstar and coach Michael Voss and actor Carl Rein that featured in the well-known TV series Neighbours and Blue Heelers.
A fantastic activity well worth experiencing is the Powerworks tour with Loy Yang Power. Loy Yang is one of Victoria’s largest electricity generators, which supplies one third of Victoria’s energy requirements. The tour gives an insight into the processes of how brown coal is burnt to create the electricity we all consume.
