Yea Information
Yea is small town of just over 1,000 people based in the meandering folds of the Yea River about 109 kms north east of Melbourne. The main industries in early years was Farming and Timber, with thousands of tons of wood moved through the local sawmills from the vast Murrindindi forests.
The area has vast expanses of natural beauty to explore and is popular with motor cyclists with some excellent touring roads surrounding the town.
A few Kilometres along Racecourse road from the High Street and you can enjoy a leisurely game of golf the beautiful 18 hole Yea golf course.
There are ample hotels and local pubs in the town centre and beyond, so you can base yourself in Yea and visit the wonderful wineries in the nearby Yarra Valley and sample some of the finest wines in Australia. Alternatively, visit one of the local cellar doors in Yea, Caveat & Alexandra, meet the winemaker and sample some real rustic blends.
One of the main tourist attractions is Kingsland National Park where the Flora and Fauna bloom in stunning hues and bushwalking will literally take your breath away.
There are adventure sports for the energetic with abseiling and horse riding close by or a leisurely trip to nearby Lake Eildon for Power Boating, Water Skiing and Fishing.
One of Yea’s best kept secrets is the natural Yea Wetlands forming through the flood plains to the east of the town where snakes, frogs and a host of water birds are protected in their natural habitat.
With tourist drives and pub tours through some of the most incredible valleys and natural parklands in Victoria, Yea is the perfect spot to pitch base and sample the surrounding countryside. And for those outdoor types, there are superb camping spots along the nearby Goulburn River, so pitch a tent and enjoy.
